I. What Does Petroleum Exploration Mean?

Petroleum exploration, also known as oil and gas exploration, refers to the process of collecting, processing, and comprehensively analyzing data using various means and methods under the guidance of the theories of the formation patterns and distribution laws of oil and gas fields. It aims to determine whether the basic conditions for the formation of oil and gas fields exist, continuously narrow down the exploration target areas, and ultimately discover and prove the existence of oil and gas fields. This is the definition in textbooks.

In fact, in the words of ordinary people, it is about what methods and means are used to find oil and how to find it.
The principles applied in petroleum exploration include "seismic stratigraphy" and "numerical simulation technology", etc. The methods adopted include "seismic exploration", "gravitational exploration", etc.
II. What Are the Petroleum Exploration Equipment?
What are the petroleum exploration equipment? Common general equipment includes surveying, drilling, and collection equipment. However, depending on the different exploration methods, the equipment and tools used also vary. There are two main methods for petroleum exploration: artificial seismic exploration and gravity, magnetic and electrical exploration:

  1. Artificial Seismic Exploration for Petroleum: Artificial seismic sources (explosives or seismic source vehicles), geophones, and transmission lines. (Explosives are used to generate seismic waves, geophones are used to receive the seismic waves reflected back from underground, and then the data is received through the transmission lines, which are processed and interpreted to explore the existence of petroleum.)

  2. Gravity, Magnetic and Electrical Exploration: It is basically the same as the above method, except that artificial electric fields or magnetic fields are used, and then the exploration is carried out according to the electrical properties of underground oil or natural gas! The equipment also includes: a transmitting system; a collection (receiving) system; a positioning system; and a data recording and processing system (generally, a V8 (electromagnetic exploration system) is sufficient, which includes the above four parts)。
